HalCon

Turns out I’m off to Halcon — the Halifax sf convention — at the end of the month. Am I going to wander around in a Peacekeeper uniform? Errr … no. I’m not giving any workshops either. Actually, I’m going as part of the Writers’ Federation of Nova Scotia delegation. If you’re attending Halcon and have an interest in writing (fantasy, science fiction, graphic novels …) come by the Writers’ Federation table and chat. I’ll be the one not cosplaying the Dharma Initiative …. With luck, by the 30th I’ll be clutching an ARC (that’d be “Advance Review Copy”) of The Black Box.

p.s. This will be my second Halcon. My first was back during Halcon Mark One, when it had a more literary and artistic and D&D bent rather than being predominantly tv/movie oriented. Spider Robinson was the guest of honour. That’d be the last Halcon Mark One, actually, wouldn’t it? You know, the year someone is rumoured to have set fire to a couch in the lobby of the Hotel Nova Scotian…. That time I dyed my hair green and went as a sort of ranger-ish character. (I suppose the pale green hair was forest camouflage?) Incidentally, if you’re blondish, a bottle of green food-colouring in a bottle of this stuff that was a sort of cross between hairspray and gel (the eighties, remember) makes a good temporary dye that looks entirely natural and washes out easily.
